Who are we?
Hello, dear reader! We’re excited to share our latest updates as part of our first monthly newsletter, milestones, and upcoming events with you. But first, let’s introduce ourselves. OpenNLP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to making artificial intelligence (AI) explainable and inclusive. We started as the Linguistics Justice League, a group focused on building technologies for teaching and preserving low-resource languages. Along the way, we realized there was a broader issue at play: the global “digital divide.” This led us to expand our mission, and now we’re a research lab for social good, collaborating with students, startups, and research labs that share our commitment to ethical AI. From researching to collaborating with major tech startups, we aim to further our reach through cutting-edge projects and research.
Upcoming Event: "Ask Me Anything" with Kyle Henry, CEO of Tune Health
We are thrilled to announce our new “Ask Me Anything” initiative that will allow attendees to hear from professionals from different fields. Our first workshop will feature Kyle Henry, CEO of Tune Health. Kyle will be sharing insights into his work and answering questions about AI, health tech, and more.

Recruiting for the Summer: Join the OpenNLP Team!
With the summer just starting, we would like to formally announce our Summer Cohort. The Summer Cohort is an internship program that allows both high school and college students to get hands-on experience with AI and work on cutting-edge projects and research.
Additionally, we’re looking for volunteers with marketing and/or management experience to join our Operations Team!
Open Positions:
Outreach and Operations Team: 10 hours per week (Part-time, Volunteer)
As part of the Outreach team, you’ll help with grants, marketing campaigns, events, human resources, and managing our social media presence.
